In the
holy month of Ramadhan, Muslims all around the globe fast from sunrise to
sunset. Now, since this year (2012) Ramadhan has occurred in the summer season,
one of the main challenges faced by Muslims is loss of water or dehydration as
well as fatigue. The foods you consume during Iftar (food consumed after
breaking the fast at sunset) are really important for your body. After an
entire hot day of work and strain, your body needs nutrients to replenish your
health.
Here is the list of five things you should include in your Iftar -
Dates -
Dates are definitely used in every Iftar to open the fast. Well, one should
know that instead of having just one date, try having a bunch of them (preferably
in odd numbers because it is sunnah). Dates are
high in dietary fibres like
potassium and have high concentration of sugars which indeed make them really
essential for anyone to regain energy for the body.
Watermelon
– Watermelons are really an essential fruit for Iftar. More than 90% is water.
It is tasty and makes a sensational item to include in your Iftar as a fruit
or as a juice. It also has Lycopene, a dietary fibre
which helps fight many
kinds of cancer!
Cantaloupe
(Melon) – Cantaloupe
includes different kinds of melons. Almost all of them are
important. They contain essential vitamins and minerals which replace the lost nutrients during the fast.
Cucumbers
– Cucumbers are the simple, cheap and an easy way to boost you up! They have
high water concentration within them, key nutrients to help you regain your
strength and helps regulate blood pressure. It also helps in getting rid of
constipation.
Milk –
Yes Milk! Often times, people forget to add milk in their Iftaar. Milk plays a
major role in any Iftar as it is a complete food. It has all the required
nutrients for the body.
Buttermilk is one of the best way to cool down your
body during Ramdhan!
Besides these, try to include different kinds of fruit juices to make your day!
